Each drawing is a meditation that begins with the perimeter line of a perfect circle, emerging from my repeated attempts to ‘perfectly’ copy the preceding line. My mistakes create the drawing’s fascinating shapes, reminiscent of fingerprints and tree rings. Mistakes are all too often experienced as negative or painful, however they might also be sources of learning, inspiration, discovery and reconciliation.
The number of circles drawn, the surface or the pens or pencils used are determined by each drawing’s meditation. Drawings take place as live performance for specific sites, in conversation with work/study teams, by commission or privately in my studio.
